White Stripes Documentary Film and Live Album



Today marks the release of the White Stripes documentary film and accompanying live cd, 'Under Great White Northern Lights' which was premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 18th 2009.

Directed by Emmett Malloy, it contains footage both on and off-stage during the band's tour of Canada in 2007 whilst the cd features a collection of recordings from various concerts during the tour.

Apparently it was the band's first tour of the country to which Jack White stated: 'Having never done a tour of Canada, Meg and I thought it was high time to go whole hog…from the ocean to the permafrost…We wanted to play out of the way towns that don’t usually get shows…the shows are better, it’s better for the people, it’s a better experience, it’s way more unique, something interesting is going to happen…hopefully'. To this extent the dvd features the band playing everything from 'The Wheels on the Bus' on a local bus to a bowling alley in a way to really connect with their fans.
